Brendan Douglas (RB/LB) Aquinas High <Class of 2013> Douglas is the 2011 Augusta Chronicle Georiga Player of the Year and also was a (2-time) Augusta Chronicle Player of the Week in the 2011 season. In his sophomore year, he rushed for well over 1100 yards and 20 TDs. Douglas rushed for over 1800 yards and 31 TDs in his junior season. He also recorded 140 tackles while playing the linebacker for the Fighting Irish. We can see his production has increased in the past two football seasons. It is one thing to put up 1800 yards rushing; but it's another to record 140 tackles in the same season. We talked to his head football coach, Matt LeZotte and he states that Douglas has a world class work ethic. He went on to say, that Douglas is the first on the practice field and weight room; and the last one to leave. Douglas is phenomenal, when it comes to judging great athletes. It is going to be a sight to see, as Douglas tries to eclipse the 2000 yard mark his senior year. He will also try to rush for over 6,000 yards for his career at Aquinas. Below there is a highlight of of his sophomore season.
George Myers Jr. (RB/DB/QB) Laney High <Class of 2013> Myers was voted onto the 2011 Augusta Chronicle All-Area Team. Myer rushed over 900 yards in his sophomore year and rushed well over 1,000 yards in his junior season. Myers is a talented athlete that is explosive on both sides of the ball. He is a very elusive threat on the offensive end of the field with elite quickness. He has enough strength to change-up and run off tackle. He can take any run or screen pass to the house on any given play. He can also make a big plays on the defensive side of the field, at any given time. Myers is a very good tackler and has great feet in coverage. At the Gridiron Elite Combine he ran the forty yard dash in 4.4 seconds and benched pressed 185lbs. sixteen times. His 40 yard dash was the fastest of the day. Laney will move Myers to the QB position for his senior campaign. He should lead the area in yards from scrimmage, while taking advantage of the ball will be in his possession on every play. Myers is a well mannered young man with a will-to-win attitude. Below are some highlights from his sophomore and junior seasons.
Hildon BJ Bush (DB) Aquinas / Hephzibah/ Hargrave Academy <Class of 2012>
Bush is currently a post graduate student at Hargrave Military Academy. Bush is a gifted defensive back with a good nose for the ball. He has the ability to make open field tackles and has good instincts allowing him to become a threat when blitzing. He can provide supreme coverage against slot receivers and quick athletes coming out of the backfield. Bush will be sure to play safety or rover in college. He has the physical body to add weight without losing quickness and could possible play the outside linebacker position at the next level. Bush is currently 6’2” in height and weighs 190 lbs. In the Gridiron Elite football combine he ran a 4.6 in the forty yard dash and benched pressed 185lbs. 18 times. Bush holds scholarship offers from Syracuse, Tulane, East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Robert E. Morris, Bethune-Cookman, and more.
Shalom Alvarez (TE/DE) Grovetown High <Class 2014> Alvarez is a 6’4” athlete that is very intriguing. He has very good hands for his size. He also plays basketball in the winter. Alvarez has good coordination and if he builds his speed, he can play wide receiver next year and also at the next level. He has a gifted sense to locate the ball while it is in the air and he possesses an above descent vertical jump to go up to get it. He shows the fearlessness to fight for jump balls and it would be very difficult for an average defensive back to jam him at the line. At the Gridiron Elite combine he ran the forty yard dash in 4.9 seconds and benched 185lbs 15 times. Note, he is only a sophomore and he has a large upside with great hands, coordination, and strength. He only needs his speed improve.
Russell Timley (QB) Glenn Hills High <Class 2015> Timley is a raw dual threat quarterback. He has a good balance of leg and arm. Timley is still young at the position because he is only a freshman; because of injuries to the Glenn Hills backfield he saw adequate playing time on the varsity level. He threw and ran for some touchdowns as a freshman. Timley is capable of running an offense using the read option as well as dropping back and passing the football. In the Gridiron Elite combine he ran the forty yard dash in 4.7 seconds. His speed is elite when padded up and in action. His footwork is raw and he will need some quarterback-coach tutoring. The sky is the limit because he possesses raw and rare talent that will make him one of the best quarterbacks to come out of the Central Savannah River Area in a long time.
